10 Myths About Sleep

i want to share something that my friends have shared with me...... enjoy a good and sound sleep ever........

We sleep about one-third of the day, but we know very little about sleep. Understanding these 10 sleep myths will help you clear up misunderstandings and get more and better sleep each night.

1. Sleep is Just Rest
Sleep is more than simply a period of rest; it is an essential time for your body to perform routine maintenance, creating long-term memories and repair damage from your day. Sleep brings many health benefits. Getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night assures that your body and mind will function well the next day. Make sleep a priority for your health and energy.

2. Losing an Hour of Sleep is No Big Deal
If you get less sleep than you need, your ability to do certain cognitive and physical tasks is decreased. If that sleep loss builds over time, it can interfere with the hormones that monitor appetite, changing your mood and increasing your risk of some chronic illnesses. Get 7 to 9 hours every night for good health.

3. You Adjust to Sleep Changes Easily
Your body gets on schedule based on your activity and exposure to daylight. When you travel across many time zones or work night shifts, you confuse body"s sense of time, making sleep difficult and inhibiting some necessary sleep functions. For every one- to two-hour time change, it takes your body 1 day to adjust. That means it could take your body 6 to 12 days to adjust to a trip from New York to China.

4. Older People Need Less Sleep
Older people need the same amount of sleep as everyone else, 7 to 9 hours per night. There is a cultural belief that as you age, you need less sleep. Unfortunately, because of this myth, many older people do not seek help for their sleep problems. Often, older people sleep less than they need to because of illness. Many of the medications older people may be using interfere with sleep. Talk to your doctor to find out more.

5. Extra Sleep Helps Fatigue
Some people assume that if they feel tired during the day, then they should sleep longer at night. This is not necessarily true. If a person is getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night, then he or she should seek another source for their fatigue. Some sleep disorders decrease sleep quality, even though the person is getting enough sleep. Many medical conditions can cause fatigue. If you are sleeping long enough but are still tired, try some exercise and daylight exposure during the day. If that doesn"t help, see your doctor.

6. You Can "Catch Up" During the Weekend
Many people sleep late on Saturday, hoping to compensate for sleep lost during the week. While sleeping late helps catch up on your sleep debt, it alters your sleep schedule. You sleep late one or two days and then wake up early again on Monday. Your body must adjust to these changes. During this adjustment, your quality of sleep is poor. It is much better to have a consistent daily sleep schedule that gives you 7 to 9 hours each night.

7. Naps are Wasteful
Naps can be a great way to catch up on lost sleep. After taking naps, people function better and do certain cognitive tasks quicker. Napping can also help you train yourself to fall asleep quicker. However, napping longer than an hour or after 3 p.m. may make it more difficult for you to fall asleep at night.

8. Snoring is Normal
While snoring is common during sleep, frequent snoring can indicate serious sleep disorders like sleep apnea. If you are a frequent, loud snorer, see your doctor about being assessed for sleep apnea. Treatments are available and you (and your partner) will have more energy during the day.

9. Children With a Sleep Deficit Will be Tired
Children are different from adults. When children are overtired, theiradrenaline kicks in and they seem energetic, even hyper. Children with sleep deficits may have behavior and attention problems. So don"t use daytime energy levels to assess your child"s sleep; use the clock. Children need an incredible amount of sleep. Find out how much sleep your child needs

and troubleshoot your family"s schedule to make sure this happens.

10. Insomnia is Caused by Worry
While worry and stress can interfere temporarily with sleep, insomnia is often caused by other factors. Medications and medical conditions can keep a person from falling asleep. These conditions include depression, anxiety, asthma, arthritis and other conditions which worsen at night.

Pass The Butter. please. This is interesting . .. . . .

See friends what i have come across while surfing blogs of someone of my friends ...... Hope you will also like this........

Margarine was originallymanufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings. DO YOU KNOW.. the difference between margarine and butter? Read on to the end....gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
Eating margarinecan increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butterincreases the absorption of many other nutrientsin other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefitswhere margarinehas a few only because they are added! Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods. Butter has been around for centurieswheremargarinehas been around for less than 100 years.
And now, for Margarine..
Very high in trans fatty acids..
Triple risk of coronary heart disease . Increases total cholesteroland LDL(this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulinresponse.
And here"s the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..
ThiS fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance). You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded are Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.. Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

"Importance of having Breakfast"

"Importance of having Breakfast"

Breakfast can help prevent strokes, heart attack and sudden death.
Tips for healthyliving...
Advice on not to skip breakfast!
For those who always skip breakfast, you should start kicking that habit now!!
You"ve heard many times that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Now, recent research confirms that one of the worst practices you can develop may be avoiding breakfast.
Why?
Because the frequency of heart attack, sudden death,
and stroke peaks between 6:00a.m. and noon, with the highest incidence being between 8: 00a.m. and 10:00a.m.What mechanism within the body could account for this significant jump in sudden death in the early morning hours?
We may have an answer
Platelet, tiny elements in the blood that keep us from bleeding to Death if we get a cut, can clump together inside our arteries due to cholesterolor laque buildup in the artery lining. It is in the morning hours that platelets become the most activated and tend to form these internal blood clots at the greatest frequency.
However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes .
Studies performed at Memorial University in St.Johns, Newfoundlandfound that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical inmodifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the studyconsumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and asource of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk.
So if you skip breakfast, it"s important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research.Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes ,along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice , and perhaps a piece of fruit .
This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential heart attack or stroke.
So never ever skip breakfast

God"s Pharmacy

God"s Pharmacy

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye...and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.
A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.
Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.
A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.
Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.
Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don"t have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.
Eggplant, Avocados and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today"s research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? .... It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).
Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow.. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm well to overcome male sterility.
Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries
Oranges , and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.
Onions look like body cells. Today"s research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

- Thanks friends for sending me such nice piece of information. Keep posting me and I will share it with the world. Keep watching for new posts.

Hi, I am starting a health tip, keep track and enjoy

The information is collected from internet submiited by my various freinds to whom i convey my sincere thanks.

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins :

1.Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person"s lifetime.
3.When the person"s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6.Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8.Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a.Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells . Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very sma ll amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it w h i te in colour. Better alternative is Bragg"s aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o no urish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more e nzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body"s killer ce lls to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body"s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body"s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

How to convert your word documents into ebooks

In these days of technological advancements the pace of life has gone high. This has necessitated availability of all our resources within our reach such as our books, guides, manuals etc.

Thus to enable this, it is wise to convert all such documents into e books and upload them to numerous frees sites. And upon their needs they can be accessed easily through internet or they can be saved into your PC, PDA or other similar gadgets.

There are several sites available providing such facilities that too free of cost One such site I quote here is from Microsoft.com. Download and install a free add-in for Microsoft Word from www.microsoft. com/reader/developers/downloads/rmr.asp. The Read in Microsoft Reader (RMR) add-in works with Microsoft Word 2002 or Microsoft Word 2003. Follow the steps after it is downloaded and add-ins are added on the word toolbar.

Just open the word file to be converted into e book, click on the reader icon and follow the simple steps setting various parameters like title, author and even adding a picture to your eBook, on the pop up window. After completing all this just hit the OK button and your documents will converted into eBooks. Done. Now u can download them to your mobile devices and enjoy them while on move.

You can download the software here.

I would recommend one other site for such conversion having some other neat features. To make your own e-books the best program I can recommend is one called mobipocket - you can download a reader and creator as well as a whole heap of books.

Shimla - A place worth to be seen.

SHIMLA

When I spell those words, a picture full of cool breeze and splendid natural beauty gets painted in front of my eyes. The place is full of life and pleasure. It is the queen of Hills SHIMLA.

The place is worth to be seen and it can be visited in every season but the monsoon season may be avoided. The place is flooded with tourists in all seasons. It is a paradise for nature lovers. The food is costly (not that much) but many other options are available. There is ample of accommodation and other guest houses are available.

There are nearby spots like Kufri, Jakhu temple etc. which is worth to be seen. If one loves rock climbing and other adventure sports many a spots are available nearby. Guides and other facilities are also available. But beware of cheats. It’s better to take assistance from a reliable or government source. The prices may also be pre negotiated.

The place is well connected with roads, rail and airport.

The journey by train is a memorable experience. This is a toy train which originates from Kalka and takes almost 5/6 hrs crisscrossing many gorges and mountains. There are about 103 tunnels and many bridges. Some bridges are five stories high and the longest tunnel is 1,143.61 meters (3,752 ft) long and remained for a long time the second longest tunnel on the Indian Railways. It is a straight tunnel, passing through fissured sandstone. The route consists of 864 bridges, one of which is a 18.29 metre (60 ft) plate girder span and steel truss. The others are viaducts with multi-arched galleries like the ancient Roman aqueducts. Bridge No. 493, historically known as the "Arch Gallery", situated between Kandaghat and Kanoh stations, is an arch bridge in three stages, constructed with stone masonry.

Khajjiar & Dalhousie

Sojourn to Dalhousie

Hi folks How are you all folks ? It has been A long TIME since I posted any blog on this site. I am highly obliged for those who stopped over by my blogs and took time to give their valuable comments. During these days, in the month of May, to take a break, I took a journey to Queen Of Hills Dalhousie and Khajjiar. It was a very memorable journey. Wish I could have been able to post some more photos for your pleasure and glimpse of natural beauty. The weather was pleasant and calm. It was sunny day and a lot open ground was there to enjoy the bright sunshine all day long. The charming beauty of the place gave all of us from our family a respite from the hectic life schedule and scorching heat of the plains. The scenery was so pleasant that it could not be explained in words only and could only be experienced by onself. The place was so calm that even your own foot steps created a lot of noise and flutter. It was pleasantly cold and we had to use blankets at night. There nothing special to be seen in Dalhousie except admiring the natural beauty of the place which is beyond any words. The air is clean, weather is pleasant and above all there is not much traffic. Every body seems to be in jolly and playful mood. We stayed at Hotel Grace Mount, which is at about two and half kilometers on Khajjiar road. The view from the terrace and room balcony is magnificent. The food served in the Hotel is also very good and not much costly considering the difficult terrain and its location. But the other eatables and packed water is much costly is almost twice the MRP. There a few spots worth to be seen like SATDHARA ( seven Streams) seven streams fall originating from some famous lake that I forgot but the speciality was that each stream had a different taste. Further to that a place called Panchpula is also prominent. It has a magnificent water fall but it a small trek away form the panchpula but worth seeing. You could have ur tea and other snacks at small tuck shops. The next stop was at Khajjiar. The place as compared to Dlahousie was much good enough ( i found so). We stayed at Hotel Mini Swiss it is just at the entrance of Khajjiar city. The hotel was not good enough as compared to Dlahousie's Grace Mounts but certainly it was amongst one of the best choices available at Khajjiar. The food served was also so so. The other eatables specially beverages were extremely costly ( beware alcoholics). It was a nice place and extremely Picturesque. I took almost 75 photographs and every one was picture postcard perfect. There are also some spots neraby Khajjiar. A place near by is JOT it is about 11 KMs from Khajjiar, a hill top. The weather was cool. The only Hotel available served cooked food. And till the food is readied, one can easily take a small trek to a hill top in front of the Hotel. The journey is memorable and one can easily forget all his tensions and worries. And replenish himself with pure and fresh air.
There are many ways to reach there. Railway goes upto Pathankot to chakki bank and further from there motorable road leads to Dalhousie, which is about 84 KMS. Khajjair is at 24 KMs from Dalhousie. Many hotels are available at both the places and tariffs ranges form 500 bucks onwards. Many State guest houses are also there but prebooking is a must otherwise one may face disappointments. The guest house are cheap and neat. I under took the journey in a Scorpio. The journey was comfortable. I performed the journey from Yamunanagar(Haryana) to Dalhousie and henceforth via ambala-Ludhiana-jallandar-chakki bank - dalhousie. The route was hot uptill Chakki Bank and ran the AC on full settings. On my return journey i took the route via Jwalaji - anandpur sahib - nangal - ropar - chandigarh. This route was nice and enjoyable. Paid Obeisance at Goddess Jwaliji's temple. The eternal light is worth seeing. Now it has been a week since i came back but the memories are still fresh as if i am still there. It was a gooooooood break.

Some tips = 1. Prefer to stay at Khajjiar and visit nearby places, enjoy and come back.

2. Please check the hotel accommodations prior to booking other wise u may turn up living in a very small and dingy room.

3. Don’t forget to carry water.

4. Also try fresh fruits available there. Apples are delicacies.

5. A lot of bargaining is there in hotels. So use ur skills to bring down the tariff to ur acceptable limits.

6. Dont rely on public transport prefer to have ur own transportation facilities.

7. Drive cautiously and avoid alcohol. Always remember some body is waiting for you at home and ur live is precious.

8. Take some regular medicines and band aids. I needed them most due to my itching shoes.

9. Prefer to use sports shoes. and don’t forget some light woolen ( In summers) though u may not require them. But nothing would be said about the weather.

10. Be humble to local people other wise u may land in trouble.
